Dr Slump Wiki

God (神様, Kami-sama) (or Lord of the Galaxy in the Viz translation) is the creator of the Dr. Slump universe. Two Gods appeared in the manga, with drastically different roles and designs.

Kami attacks Senbei

An actor playing god for Akane Kimidori's movie appears in "Little Cat Riding Hood" to attack Senbei Norimaki when the latter prays for forgiveness after he used cursed words.

In a later appearance, Kami (although with a far different design and personality) is shown with a more important role in the plot of a chapter where it revealed that long ago, he created Gatchan and assigned him with the destruction of the human race when he deemed them too selfish and violent after seeing them kill one another and mistreat their planet. Kami came to inspect Gatchan's progress with the Earth, but was a bit disappointed to discover they had still not finished their job, so instead he asked one of them to volunteer in aiding him in the judgment of another planet. Luckily, they had a robotic double made by Turbo to take the position for them and Kami went on his way.

Later on, the robotic Gatchan exploded after a set time limit Turbo implemented for it and when Kami found out the truth he swore to destroy both the Earth from Gatchan's tomfoolery. He returns swiftly in front of the Gatchans, who were now playing with Arale. They mess with Kami and show themselves to have superior strength and abilities in comparison to all of his displays. Turbo comes about when Kami shows off his ability to make a boulder float in the air, and the baby proceeds to lift a mountain with a single finger, stunning the creator.

As a last resort, Kami tries his comedian skills to prove he is god, which all fail to amuse Arale, the Gatchans and Turbo. He instead runs up to Arale and tickles her for a cheap laugh, declaring that he is the true creator and flies away on his space jet device in a cowering act. He returns to his home to relax and do mundane activities like looking through a dirty magazine. Before he goes to sleep, he remembers that he vowed to destroy Earth and get even with the Gatchans and quickly storms back to the Planet.

When he returns, it is late at night and God is unaware of where the Gatchans lived, so he knocks on the door of Obotchaman's House to ask for directions. Obotchaman promptly answers and invites Kami inside to sleep since it was late, and he accepts the offer. Obotchaman humbles his guest and then they sleep for a peaceful night until the next morning at 5 am when his alarm clock goes off. Obotchaman goes out to do his milk delivering, which makes Kami suspicious because he was seemingly too kind.

God follows Obotchaman invisibly to see what he was up to. He gets confused since the boy was only delivering milk as he said, until he reaches the Norimaki Residence to greet the Gatchans who were up early. The rest of the family comes out to pack their car to go fishing. Kami believes they are all planning to escape Earth before he could destroy it, but in reality everything they were doing was honest.

He follows the Norimakis to where they go fishing, and is even more confused when they are having a great time as a family. God notices the angels are the happiest he has even seen them when one Gatchan manages to catch a fish, with everybody celebrating for them.

Kami decides that Earth is a worthwhile Planet after all, and proceeds to leave. Not before eating breakfast Obotchaman had prepared for him.

Powers & Abilities[]

Kami (Little Cat Riding Hood)[]

Kami showed the ability to appear instantly before Senbei to punish him for his cursing.

Second God[]

Kami in the manga

This God refers to himself as "the creator of everything". He also has the ability to summon or teleport objects to himself out of thin air which he used to summon a copy of the Dr. Slump chapter in which he appeared to find out about what Arale and the others were up to. Kami is shown to possess the power of telekinesis which he used to lift a large rock. However this power appears to pale in comparison to Turbo's telekinesis. Kami also often proclaims that he is almighty. However he is often shown to be easily harmed like a regular mortal. His truly greatest power however is his ability to destroy planets with ease. He possesses the power to create Cherubs like Gatchan which he uses to aid in his planetary judgment. He also has a hover vehicle which he uses to travel great distances at equally great speeds.

God in Oishii Shima no Ū-sama

  • Aside from the star on his forehead, Kami's appearance and voice are identical to Muten Roshi from Dragon Ball.
  • The God of Guruguru island in Oishii Shima no Ū-sama is very similar to Kami in Dr. Slump.
  • Though he shares the same name/title as Kami from Dragon Ball they obviously hold different divine positions within their respective series as the Kami in Dragon Ball is a mortal Namekian God of Earth (a divine position held by a pure hearted mortal chosen from inhabitants of Earth by either the previous Kami of Earth or Mr. Popo if the current Kami of Earth dies before choosing a successor) while the Kami in Dr. Slump is the Lord of the Galaxy, a galactic level deity.
    • Additionally their roles within their respective series are the opposite of one another as the Kami of Earth (originally by the Namekian Kami and later by his successor Dende) is responsible for overseeing the development of its mortal population, protecting Earth, and assists the protagonists in defending the planet from various villains/antagonists, while the Lord of the Galaxy is essentially a antagonist in Dr. Slump who views humanity as dangerous and violent thus planned to keep their civilization primitive by sending Gatchan's Egg to Earth, becoming angry at the protagonists for foiling his plan, even threatening to destroy Earth at one point.
