Dr Slump Wiki

Popy (ポピー)was a Japanese toy manufacturer of the 1970s and early 1980s. The company was owned by Bandai. It was founded in 1971, and remerged into Bandai in 1983.

In 1981, Popy helped fund the Dr. Slump Arale-chan anime in exchange for merchandise licensing. Among the merchandise the company manufactured included dolls, doll accessories, gimmicky toys, Keshi figures and scooters.

Popy had the license to Dr. Slump until mid-1983, when the company was merged back into Bandai. After the merger, Bandai opted to reprint older toys until late 1984. Currently, some of these items are sought after by collectors and go for a high amount of money on foreign sites.

Some Japanese collectors claimed that there were prototypes for dolls of Obotchaman and Taro Soramame; but nothing is confirmed as of now.
